Mint Mobile
Mint Mobile, LLC is a mobile virtual network operator in the United States, owned by T-Mobile US, on the T-Mobile network. It requires purchasing a physical SIM card or eSIM online and prepaying for at least three months of service, excluding the trial period.
The company was founded in 2015 by Ultra Mobile founders David Glickman and Rizwan Kassim as Mint Sim, a subsidiary of Ultra Mobile.
In November 2019, the company's corporate spin-off from Ultra Mobile was completed[4] and Ryan Reynolds acquired 20–25% ownership. Both Reynolds and founder Glickman hired Michael J. Fox Foundation, and Glickman was impressed by Reynolds' marketing for Deadpool.
In March 2023, T-Mobile US agreed to acquire Kaena Corporation and its subsidiaries and brands, including Mint Mobile. It was announced that Reynolds would remain as spokesperson in his "creative role on behalf of the Mint". T-Mobile CEO Mike Siewert assured customers that Mint's current $15-per-month plan would remain in place, and that Mint's founders would remain. To manage what "would normally be functioned as a separate business entity.
Actor and entrepreneur Ryan Reynolds and other owners of Mint Mobile have sold the direct-to-consumer prepaid wireless brand to T-Mobile in a $1.35 billion deal.
Publicly traded US telco T-Mobile today announced a deal to acquire Mint's privately owned parent, Kaena Corporation, which also owns the Ultra Mobile and Plum brands. It will pay up to a maximum of $1.35 billion in a combination of 39% cash and 61% stock. The actual price will be based on Kaena's performance "during certain periods before and after closing," with the transaction expected to close later this year.
Reynolds will continue his creative role on behalf of the Mint. Its founders David Glickman and Rizwan Kassim will remain at T-Mobile to manage the brands, which will generally operate as a separate business unit.
"Mint Mobile is the best deal in wireless, and today's news only enhances our ability to deliver for our customers," Reynolds said. “We are very pleased that T-Mobile beat out my mom Tammy Reynolds' aggressive last-minute bid because we believe the excellence of their 5G network is better than my mom's slightly above-average mahjong skills. Will provide strategic fit. I'm very proud of the entire Mint team and very excited for what's to come."
